I’m not finding WordPress is entirely meeting my needs, and am thinking of upping sticks to a new blogging platform. Anyone got any recommendations?

What things would you like your new platform to do/not do?
I’d like to be able to embed things like the little Amazon widget that shows a picture of the book and the link, as opposed to just the text link, and I want something that doesn’t keep trying to integrate itself with Facebook. I’m dismayed that there’s no way to turn off the new ‘comment with Facebook’ button on the comment form unless I restrict commenting to WordPress users only. I’m happy with a lot of the things WP does, like the threaded commenting and photo hosting and the sidebar widgets, but there’s just been a buildup of things that irk me. I want more control in general and less feature creep.
I suspect the answer is hosting some kind of blogging software on my own domain, but my technical skills aren’t really up to that so I’d like to avoid it if possible.
Yes, I’m afraid my first thought was wordpress.org hosted on your own domain.
I think you’re probably right, unfortunately. Why can’t the Internet give me exactly what I want for free?
